1991-Present International Pipe Inspectors Association, Inc. (IPIA), Houston, Texas
Executive Director
- Develop and maintain Examinations for all courses and upgrade as needed.
- Attend professional society conferences and meetings and remain abreast of modern developments in OCTG inspection.
- Advise, assist and consult with members of the IPIA
- Upgrade, develop and teach courses in: Used Drill Pipe, Ultrasonic Level I & II, Magnetic Particle Level I & II, Threadgauging, Visual Thread Inspection, Used Tubing and Casing, Basic Inspection, Introduction to Pipe Inspection, Liquid Penetrant I & II and other courses as requested by members.
- Courses taught in the following locations: Texas, Oklahoma, California, Wyoming, Colorado, Louisiana, Canada, India, South America, Tunisia. Australia.
- Responsible for day to day operation of the Association
- Attend Board of Directors and Committee meetings and implement Board and Committee requirements.
- Exercise financial control, produce Annual Budget, approve equipment purchases, write Annual Report.
- Market the association and its objectives by seeking new avenues of support, seek accreditation for IPIA courses from national & international organizations.
- Interact with professional societies, (ASNT, API, IADC, ASTM, ASQC etc).
- Oversee maintenance and confidentiality of student course records and test results.
1978-1991 Baker Hughes Vetco Services (BHVS), Houston, Texas Training Manager
- Responsible for training needs assessment, to include coordination with field management to assure the right mix of schools and the proper content of each course.
- Did the job task analysis for the various technical positions at BHVS, to assure that training courses were in fact covering all the required areas.
- Implemented instructor standardization program that assured that instructors could teach a course to standards prior to being allowed to teach.
- Worked with managers to develop specific courses to solve problems, for example a pipe identification course for yard personnel.
- Developed and taught courses covering principles as well as procedures for NDT methods used by BHVS.
- Developed instructional materials and written examinations both general and specific for the same.
- Developed, field tested, and implemented a hands on evaluation program as part of the practical examination program in conjunction with SNT-TC1A.
- Updated a major portion of the technical procedure manual.
- Produced a video tape program on pipe manufacturing.
- Worked as a problem solver between engineering, manufacturing and the end users of equipment to assist in defining design criteria for equipment and solve utilization problems experienced by the users that surface during training and post training valuation.
1969-1978 Officer, U.S. Army
Many assignments to include Personnel Officer for Battalion and Project Manager for Army Training Study. The Army Training Study was a comprehensive review of the effectiveness of the various training methods used by the U.S. Army.
