Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) Level I & II - 3 Days each.
(MPI Level I is a prerequisite for the MPI Level II)
This course was developed to meet the guidelines of ASNT SNT-TC-1A. Level I will provide a basic knowledge of Magnetic Particle Inspection sufficient to enable the inspector to do inspections under the supervision of a Level II.

The magnetic theory that is involved in OCTG inspection is thoroughly discussed, as well as the use of the various types of Magnetic Particle Inspection used in this industry.

The Level II course provides detailed instruction in the theory and practice of Magnetic Particle Inspection. Sufficient to allow him to work without direct supervision. Both courses are centered around inspection of OCTG and little time is spent on equipment or techniques not used in this industry. ASTM & API requirements are the basis of the specification requirement.

Used Drill Pipe Inspection - 5 Days
Magnetic Particle Level I is a prerequisite for this course.
Student required to have own: API 5D, SPEC 7, RP76. Industry tour if conducted, student will be required to have closed toe shoes and safety glasses.

This course covers API Specification 5D and 7, and API RP7G as they relate to used drill pipe specification.

A review of the magnetic theory as related to the traditional drill pipe wet and dry magnetic particle inspection for the tube body and thread defects.

Original UDP imperfections Tool Joint identifiers and overview of the drilling operations are included. Other areas covered include:

Purpose of Used Inspection
  1. Origin of Used Pipe Defects
  2. Inspection Services offered and the defects they detect
  3. Drill Pipe and Tool Joint Identification
  4. Use of Drilco Ruler
  5. Magnetic Particle Inspection review
  6. OD gaging
  7. Compression Wave Ultrasonics
  8. EMI theory and drill pipe inspection unit standardization
  9. RP 7G Section 10 and Table 19
  10. Calculation of tubular cross sectional area
  11. Tool Joint Inspection and Table 10
  12. Detection Evaluation and Classification
  13. Tube Classification Worksheet

Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) 3 Days
*Magnetic Particle Level I is a prerequisite for this course.
Student required to have own: API SPEC 7,RP7G and SPEC 7-1
Fundamental review of how the connections work, and the stresses they are subjected to. Purpose and function of design features such as Relief Grooves and Boreback are covered as well. This course covers API Specification 7 and API RP7G. The BHA course will also include:
  1. Purpose of Bottom Hole Assembly
  2. API Specification 7
    a) Section 6 - Drill Collars
    b) Section 9 - Rotary Shoulder Connections
    c) Section 3 - Square and Hexagon Kelly
    d) Section 5 - Drill Stem Subs
  3. Review of API RP7G a) Section 3 - Collars
    b) Bending Strength Ratios
    c) Drill Collar Inspection
    d) Visual Inspection Connections
    e) Dimensional Measurements Pin and Box
    f) Magnetic Particle Inspection
    g) Liquid Penetrant Inspection
  4. Heavy Weight Drill Pipe
  5. Kelly Inspection

DS-1 Drill Stem Inspection - 3 Days
DS-1 is a registered trademark of TH Hill Associates
(Used Drill Pipe & Bottom Hole Assembly are prerequisite for this course).
Student required to have own DS-1 manual

This course covers the requirements of DS-1, based on the Third Edition, as they relate to the inspection of Used Drill Pipe and Bottom Hole Assembly components.

A review of the drill stem inspection of DS-1 and procedures for development of an inspection program is included. The specific procedural requirement of each of the fifteen inspection methods listed in DS-1 and the specific down hole tool inspection are covered.

Discussions include theory and rational for the procedures.
  1. Introduction
  2. Design
  3. Inspection Program
  4. Inspection Methods (fifteen)
  5. Down Hole tool inspection

Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LP) Level I & II Combined -2 Days
(This course combines the course outlines for Level I and II into a single course). This course was developed to meet the guidelines of ASNT SNT-TC-1A. It provides detailed instruction in the theory and practice of Liquid Penetrant Inspection, sufficient to allow him to work without direct supervision.

The course is centered around inspection of OCTG and little time is spent on techniques not used in this industry. ASTM requirements are the basis of the specific requirements taught in the course.

Solvent Removable Visible Liquid Penetrant Level I & II Combined - 1/2 Day
This course provided for limited certification for those inspectors only doing Solvent Removable Visible Dyes. Except for the limit scope, the course meets the criteria shown above.

This course meets the guidelines of SNT-TC-1A for training, but restricts the scope to Solvent Removable Visible Dyes only.

It provides detailed instruction in the theory and practice of Liquid Penetrant Inspection. ASTM requirements are the basis of the specific requirements taught in this course.

Full scope Penetrant Courses are available.
